Verifying Your Download

< Back to Download
Right now, the Sha256Sums & MD5Sums are:
MD5SUM: 71dea87f57d4d8b91692fafdbda71f1b
sha256sum: c2059c13517e6ec36bf2d3228ec72e541090381b02d398df490561304907d1fb
x32 (below):
MD5SUM: b40f043fbd17324ef702ab26677aec60
sha256sum: f2e82708241ed7068b3f52c6a99b6248ca2a514dd2f3d442527e98685f0217bc
It is important to verify your ISO that you just downloaded for integrity and authenticity, especially if a Download Mirror was to be hacked, replacing the ISO with a Modded one that could then potentially compromise the machine, so here's how:
Requirements:
  • Note of the Sha256Sum and MD5Sum above
  • The feren OS ISO
1. Open a Terminal
2. Type in 'md5sum ' (without the quotes), and then drag the ISO from Files, into the Terminal Window
3. Press ENTER on your Keyboard, and wait, this can take a long while to do.
4. Once you've done that, you'll be given a long set of what looks like gibberish, copy it
5. Now compare the MD5Sum above, and the gibberish you got out of the command, are they the same? If they are not, the ISO may have been compromised, or downloaded incorrectly, so try again, and if the result is the same, let me know ASAP.

(The next steps are for if the MD5Sum matches the one above, to make sure that the ISO is legitimate)

6. Now type in 'sha256sum ' (without the quotes), and then drag the ISO from Files, into the Terminal Window
7. Press ENTER on your Keyboard, and wait, this can take a long while to do.
8. Once you've done that, you'll be given a long set of what looks like gibberish, copy it
9. Now compare the Sha256Sum above, and the gibberish you got out of that command, are they the same? If so, and the MD5Sums also match, you may safely proceed to use the ISO normally.
