You can now Update feren OS Snapshots to the Mint Sylvia base!

Yep, the moment I got word that Linux Mint dropped their Sylvia ISO onto their Download Servers, under the "Stable" folder, I started working on the seamless update from the ISO's base of Mint Sonya, to the new base of Mint Sylvia (18.2 => 18.3). To be honest, for a first try at doing this (all previous Mint Updates came as feren OS Releases), the update process is seamless, and very easy.

How to Update the base:

  1. Open up Update Manager
  2. Hit Refresh, to make sure all the available Updates are listed
  3. Select everything, and hit "Install Updates" (if you get an error here, repeat this step, but DESELECT 'cinnamon-control-center-feren' first)
  4. Restart your System
  5. Boot into feren OS, and let it do its thing.
  6. Once you're on the Login Screen again, Enjoy.

What's changed?

  1. GNOME Software has been replaced with the Revamped, and now arguably better than Software, Mint Software Manager (your Pin will be changed over, as well as the option in the Menu on Login)
  2. You can now use the Online Accounts feature on Cinnamon, which also integrates with Files
  3. Redshift, a F.lux replacement, is now included, as an optional feature for the user to have (not run on Startup by default)
  4. Timeshift, with the help of the Linux Mint Team, has now appeared in feren OS, and it's a pretty good System Restore-like Tool in that.
  5. Mint Reports has also appeared now

feren

Also, the hype, feren OS is nearly at 100,000 Total Downloads! Let's see how quick we make it to that mark, shall we? https://sourceforge.net/projects/ferenoslinux/files/stats/timeline?dates=2015-01-23+to+2018-11-30
