So you might already now know that feren OS 2016.2 32 Bit RC is in development and I thought to answer the billion year question, what we plan to do with feren OS in the future?? So we made this Blog Post to tell you what's going to happen to it in future releases: 1. Zuro UIIn a future release (After Ubuntu incorporates Mir), we plan to make a heavily customizable (to the core) desktop called 'Zuro UI'. It will look VERY similar to the current default Cinnamon Configuration except the interface will look different there for the better of feren OS's Design... and a new way of using Themer to change the theme as this time, it could even make feren OS look like the legit OS the theme makes it look like... Below, there is a couple of concepts showing the design of the planned desktop using the default theme and some others: 2. PPAsIn a future release, we will make packages for our repositories to keep the system up-to-date without needing much while keeping the packages in sync using a rolling release model in the Ubuntu package system. Now, by Rolling Release, it will remain Stable, and here's how we've planned on doing the rolling PPAs:
With this structure, it hopefully won't break the system as much as other rolling release structures, or even Windows 10 too... 3. A Store For EverythingThis'd probably start of as a simple, little Software Center that replaces GNOME Software with just as many features, but we plan to then turn it into an ultimate Software Center for everything, including:
4. Auto Updating this release onwardsferen OS will have auto-updating in the background when new updates are available to keep feren OS new, and that combined with the Rolling Release Model means your PC will always be fresh and up-to-date with the latest Stable features when you use feren OS. (Also, possibly no big upgrades either) 5. A new LightDM GreeterYeah, LightDM will replace MDM as the default greeter when the greeter for LightDM to go with the Zuro UI DE gets made and introduced into feren OS... This may mean less customisability for the login screen, but there will possibly be a login screen configuration screen on the Settings window. 6. A new sleek Plymouth themeThe Plymouth theme in feren OS will be like the current one but with a neat animation of a dot coming towards the screen and then returning to it's position followed by the next dot doing the same, and so on to add a nice little Boot Splash for feren OS... 7. A first login Setup AssistantThe first release you get of feren OS with Zuro UI will have a neat little Setup Assistant UI that tells you what's new with the release and then converts Cinnamon settings into Zuro UI's settings leaving the Cinnamon Settings in peace too. Also, for people firstly logging into feren OS, it'll give you a little tips and tricks screen before preparing things for that user. Also, before the first login, it'll log into the user with the Zuro UI Session... 8. A new installerThis installer will be a neat fork of Ubiquity that has a simple, easy to use GUI and will also sport a new set of added features to make it easier to switch to feren OS from Windows 10 for example. 9. A sleek new Notification Center, set of applications and a new looking Lock Screenferen OS will have a newer looking lock screen on it with Zuro UI, a new Notification Center that is full screen and an awesome set of default applications to replace most of the current set. 10. Tablet ModeIt's already (kinda) there in Themer, but in Zuro UI, we plan on making it more Tablet-suitable by auto maximising every window possible as well as allowing for snapping to the sides of the screen... 11. Phone SupportYep, we might even in the long future make a version of feren OS for Phones, it'll be based off of Ubuntu Touch and will have the Zuro UI with all its features on a tall screen optimised for touch. |
