Choose Feren OS as your computer's next stop to keep receiving security and software updates

With Microsoft ending support for Windows 10, many users will be left with computers that no longer receive security, and later software, updates as they do not meet Microsoft's "TPM 2.0" requirement for installing Windows 11 - Feren OS doesn't have such requirements*.

Follow the easy steps below to see how you can switch to Feren OS today to keep receiving the latest updates and keep your computer secure from future security exploits.

Step 1: Download Feren OS

To begin, download Feren OS using the link below - you will get a .iso file, otherwise known as a Disk Image File, which will be required for the next steps:

Additionally, make sure you have either 2 USB drives on hand, or 1 USB drive and 1 external hard drive before continuing.

Step 2: Get a USB and flash Feren OS onto it

You will now need to have a USB drive on hand - they typically look like this:
If you have 2 USB drives on hand, use the one with the lowest storage capacity (or lowest "GB") for this step.

Insert the USB into the computer that you downloaded Feren OS onto earlier, and follow the guide below to flash Feren OS onto the USB, ready to be installed:
Flashing the .iso file to a USB

Step 3: Prepare Windows for the installation

Now your USB has been flashed, you need to do some final tasks in Windows:
1. Disable "Fast Startup"
2. If you have the NVIDIA App, turn off Secure Boot

Follow the sections of the guide below for instructions for the steps above that apply to your computer:
Preparing for Installation

Step 4: Transfer your files to the external hard drive / 2nd USB drive

You will now need to have the external hard drive or 2nd USB drive on hand - make sure whichever drive you use is large enough to hold your Windows data.

Now, you need to restart into the USB you flashed Feren OS on - do not shut down Windows, make sure to "Restart" Windows instead.
After restarting, to boot into the USB instead of Microsoft Windows, follow the guide below:
Booting into the USB you flashed Feren OS onto
If successful, congrats, you're past the hardest part of this tutorial!

You should now see a Desktop with "Install Feren OS" on the top-left corner - instead, follow either of the following guides below to transfer your files to your external hard drive or 2nd USB drive:

Step 5: Eject your external hard drive / 2nd USB drive and install Feren OS

Now you have transferred your data to your external hard drive, go into Files (the 2nd of the 3 icons initially seen in the bottom-center of your screen) and safely eject it by pressing the ⏏ symbol beside its listing in the left-side list of folders and drives in Files.
Once you're done, it's finally time for the exciting part: Installing Feren OS onto your computer!

With all your USBs and external hard drives ejected from your computer, go into the Applications Menu, go to System, and click on "Install Feren OS". Then, follow the guide below to replace Windows with Feren OS:
Installing over Windows
After installation is complete, set up Feren OS as instructed on your computer's screen until you reach a Desktop that looks identical to the one you saw once booted into the USB earlier, except that "Install Feren OS" is no longer present in the top left corner.

Step 6: Transfer your files back with Transfer Tool

Reinsert the external hard drive, or 2nd USB drive, that you transferred your files to earlier prior to installing Feren OS.

Now, follow either of the following guides below to transfer your files back from your external hard drive or 2nd USB drive:

Step 7: Install your favourite applications and have fun!

Welcome to Feren OS! You can use the Store to get most, if not all, of your favourite applications installed.

Once you're ready, feel free to look around and explore Feren OS a little - if you ever get stuck, you can always find Feren OS and its community ready to help along the way on social media.
Otherwise, enjoy! There's more to come to be excited about, such as a new look for the Feren OS that you'll get accustomed to coming in the near future, and I look forward to you coming along for it.
